Contact Barton & Associates San Antonio, Austin & Corpus Christi Offices
Most people who contact a law firm for the first time have never done it before. They have urgent questions, and they are unsure what the process looks like. We want to answer those questions before you ever pick up the phone.
When you reach out to Barton & Associates—whether by phone at 210-500-0000, by Email at Info@BartonLawOffice.com, or through the Free Consultation form on this page—one of our legal intake specialists will respond promptly to gather basic information about your situation. For callers during business hours, that conversation often happens the same day. Your initial contact is completely confidential; nothing you share with us during the intake process can be used against you, and reaching out does not create an attorney-client relationship or obligate you in any way.
The free consultation itself typically lasts 30 to 45 minutes. You will speak directly with a licensed Texas attorney—not a paralegal screening your case from a script. During that conversation, the attorney will ask you to walk through the facts as you understand them, will identify the legal issues involved, and will give you an honest assessment of your options. If your matter involves a criminal charge, we will discuss the specific offense, the court it is set in, any bond conditions you are subject to and the realistic range of outcomes. If your matter involves family law—a divorce, a child custody modification, a child support enforcement action or a protective order—we will identify the governing statute, any applicable court orders already in place and the procedural steps your case will likely require.
We do not believe in vague reassurances. We believe in giving you enough information during that first conversation to make a confident decision about your legal representation, whether you hire us or someone else. Attorney Gary J. Barton built this firm on the principle that clients deserve straight answers, not sales pitches. That standard carries through every consultation our attorneys conduct.
Before your consultation, it helps to gather any documents related to your situation: police reports, court papers, prior orders, financial statements or any correspondence from the opposing party or their counsel. You do not need to have everything organized—we can work through the details together—but having those materials available allows the attorney to give you a sharper assessment during the time we have. If you are dealing with an emergency, such as an active arrest warrant, a pending criminal court date or an emergency custody situation involving your children, tell the intake specialist immediately. We prioritize urgent matters and can often get an attorney on a call the same day.
After the consultation, if you decide to move forward with our representation, we will provide you with a clear engagement agreement that spells out the scope of services, the fee structure and what you can expect from our legal team. We are selective about the cases we accept—not because we turn people away lightly, but because we commit fully to every client we represent. We do not overload our attorneys’ dockets. When Barton & Associates takes your case, you have our full attention.
Barton & Associates was founded as a San Antonio criminal defense and family law firm, and those remain the two pillars of our practice. Over time we have expanded our representation to include personal injury matters—particularly cases involving car accidents, 18-wheeler crashes and workplace injuries—because the same clients who trust us with their criminal cases and divorces often need that same level of advocacy when they have been seriously hurt by someone else’s negligence.
In criminal defense, our attorneys handle the full range of charges filed in Bexar County, Travis County and Nueces County courts. This includes DWI defense from first-offense misdemeanor charges through felony DWI cases involving prior convictions, intoxication assault or intoxication manslaughter. We represent clients charged with drug possession and drug delivery, assault and family violence, theft offenses, weapons charges, sex crimes and felony charges ranging from aggravated assault to murder. Our attorneys also handle probation violation matters—including motions to revoke and motions to adjudicate—and post-conviction relief such as expunctions and orders of nondisclosure. We have particular experience representing active-duty military personnel and veterans stationed at Joint Base San Antonio, including JBSA-Lackland, JBSA-Fort Sam Houston and JBSA-Randolph, as well as professionals whose licenses are at risk as a result of a criminal arrest.
In family law, we represent clients throughout all phases of divorce and separation, including high-asset and high-conflict cases, business owner divorces, and contested property division matters involving retirement accounts, real estate, and community versus separate property characterization disputes. Our child custody attorneys handle original SAPCR filings, modification proceedings, emergency custody orders and fathers’ rights cases. We represent parents in child support matters, including enforcement actions and upward or downward modifications based on a material and substantial change in circumstances. We also handle post-divorce enforcement of property division orders, spousal maintenance disputes and legal guardianship proceedings.
For clients injured by the negligence of others, our personal injury team handles motor vehicle accident claims, including car accidents, motorcycle accidents, trucking and 18-wheeler crashes and rideshare accidents. We also represent clients in premises liability cases, dog bite and animal attack claims, and wrongful death actions.
We serve the San Antonio metro area and Bexar County from our downtown office at 115 Camaron St. Our Austin office at 316 W. 12th St., Suite 400, serves clients in Travis County and the surrounding Hill Country. Our Corpus Christi office at 5110 Wilkinson Dr., Suite 210, serves clients in Nueces County and the Coastal Bend region. Regardless of which office your case is assigned to, you receive the full resources of our firm and the oversight of attorneys who know Texas courts.
When you are searching for a lawyer, you are not just looking for someone with a law license. You are looking for an attorney who has stood in the courtrooms where your case will be decided, who knows the prosecutors, the judges and the procedural tendencies that can affect your outcome, and who will not hand your file off to a junior associate and call it representation. The attorneys at Barton & Associates are trial lawyers. That matters in ways that are not always visible until a case reaches a critical moment.
Founder Gary J. Barton has built a team of attorneys who share a commitment to preparation and courtroom advocacy. Our managing attorney, Duane Graeff, brings extensive criminal defense experience across Bexar County courts. Our senior trial attorney, Jim Erickson, has decades of litigation experience that informs every contested hearing our firm handles. Trial attorneys George Manning, AshLee Bradshaw, Desirée Flye Marshall and Mario Moreno each bring focused experience across our primary practice areas. This depth of staffing means your case benefits from multiple attorneys with relevant experience, not a single overextended solo practitioner carrying more cases than any one lawyer can properly manage.
Our results speak to what preparation and skilled advocacy actually produce. We have secured acquittals in jury trials on serious felony charges, obtained dismissals of DWI cases through suppression motions that challenged the legality of the stop, and achieved custody outcomes in disputed SAPCR proceedings that protected children and preserved parental rights. We have also litigated property division disputes involving businesses, retirement accounts and complex community estate questions with outcomes that our clients describe as fair and professionally handled.
We treat every client like family—that phrase appears on our website because we mean it literally in terms of how our team interacts with the people we represent. You will not be sent to voicemail without a callback. You will not wait weeks for a response to a question about your own case. Our attorneys and support staff are on call evenings, weekends and holidays for existing clients. We answer non-client calls and texts from 8am to 6pm seven days a week.
We are also honest about fit. We do not accept every case that walks through the door, because we will not take your money and give you less than our full effort. If we are not the right firm for your situation, we will tell you that directly in the consultation. If we are, we will commit to your case with the same intensity we would apply if the same facts belonged to a member of our own family. That is the standard Gary Barton set when he founded this firm, and it is the standard every attorney here is held to today.

We are selective about the cases we accept because we treat our clients like family—with respect, dignity and unwavering commitment. In return, we expect the same courtesy. We do not tolerate rudeness toward our staff, and we will withdraw representation from any client who exhibits inappropriate behavior, dishonesty or attempts to mislead our team.
